I am always on the hunt for various 1950s shapes. There is a garden that I have partly designed and built for a 1950s yellow brick suburban house. I never completed it as I moved to the UK but I occasionally finish the design in my head.
The fifties are well represented in the servingware department. Its probably a function of the entertaining role of the 50s housewife? Who knows but there is much inspiration to be drawn from 50s style tableware – the shapes and silhouettes are often very beautiful. Of course the shape of a garden bed needs to relate to the function of the outdoor area but there is always room for the garden party dip bowl to influence some aspect of the garden. By the way the image above was taken from http://www.cocomale.com/
Would love to hear any other planting bed shape influences.
